OK, what's your favourite jersey in your collection, and why? Is it the design, the history, the smell(?!), the wear? Which one wouldn't you part with...?

For me the thrill of the chase; tracking down the jersey(s) I want, talking to the current owner and seeing if a deal can be done is the most cool part of it. I love having them of course, but the process of getting them is where the buzz is. For that reason, I'm really most satisfied with the older Robbie jerseys that I have see here.

The Vipers shirt was one I'd tracked down for ages, before finally finding it almost by chance in Hawaii (alas I didn't get to go and find it, but three cheers for the internet!). The Otters jersey was one I traded for - sending two jerseys and cash to Carolina, and the guy ended up sending me some autographed player cards for some Canes players for a friend for free.

What stories do you have?

Well I really like my Clint Cabana Syracuse Crunch jersey (anyone agree that team name sounds like a breakfast cereal?!?! Laughing )

He isnt really a top favourite player of mine but I really like the old style jersey with their old logo and I picked it up dirt cheap (around 50 euros from a German collector).
It was one of those jerseys you cant wait to recieve and when it does arrive it lives up to what you hoped for an even more!
The jersey has some good wear on it and is a good fit (size 56)

Also I was well pleased with my Melnychuk Verdun Dragons jersey as I had been looking for one of his jerseys for so long then some guy put it up for trade on gameworn.net, I fired off an email to him and couldnt wait for a response, it felt like an age waiting and I think I even sent another telling him to by no means sell it to anyone else! Laughing - Its only a game issue but I like the jersey anyway and its a meatgrinder!

As for my NHL jerseys, I really like my Nazarovs but my Brashear was a complete score when I recieved it, it absolutely stank, I had to air it in my spare room for a few months, the smell still hasnt left!!!

And finally my Kasparaitus jersey was a complete bargain, its probably my highest value jersey and possibly my cheapest jersey in my collection.

Cant really narrow it down to 1 but this sums it up really!

Good topic. Nice to hear these kind of stories, not exactly the kind of thing I can talk over with my girlfriend without getting a smack.

British jerseys. I think it would have to be my Ryan Stewart Manchester Storm road jersey from 02/03. As people on her no doubt know, this was the year the Storm ceased operations. With the team folding so early, there was never any replicas of the road jerseys made so if you want a road jersey from that year you had to have a gamer. However, getting them wasn't too easy.

Essentially, after the final game in Belfast - when it was very clear the Storm wouldn't exist the next day - the teams kit bags containing all the jerseys were put on the fans coach rather than the team coach who then basically smugglded them away. The sponsers, who of course were supposed to get the home jerseys, had already paid their money and feared this money would soon be swilling down the same black hole as the season ticket money. We though were unaware of what happened with the road jerseys and so evantually we recieved them - I recieved mine in a secret meeting in an Iceland car park!

We recieved them unwashed, with a warning not to wear them at all in public for the next few weeks as they feared the creditors would sieze them on sight - at this time the home jerseys had already been taken back by Shinedog so it perhaps wasn't paranoia. My word, the smell was insane. I've had unwashed jerseys from teams before but, oh my.

For the reason that there are no replicas, and the story of getting it I believe this jersey is amongst my favourites. That, and what a nice jersey. Looking at it can be a tad depressing. The team we had that year was amazing, without sounding arrogant I really think Storm would have won that year - Stewart, Pepperrall, Peters, Maltby, Longstaff, Torchia, Matulik, what a team.

Ryan Stewart is now the GM of the Greenville Grrrowl in the ECHL.

I have other jerseys which have stories but I think I've written enough for today.

God, I'd almost forgot the story behind them. We got ours (a Dan Hodge that I share with the wife) at the town hall meeting. I had to struggle just to keep the stench inside the bag. Shocked

My favourite jersey is my 93-94 Cam Neely. It's from the season he scored 50 goals in 44 games. He notched the fiftieth on my birthday. I watched it in a sports bar in Toronto, and when I started collecting a couple of years later decided it was one I had to have. It cost me a new kitchen. Anyway, pics are below....

Tough call this one but for wear alone it has to be either my #55 Dean Mayrand or #20 Justin Leinhos Sorel Royaux jerseys. Both are absolutely hammered with wear and filth and smell awful. They were worn for at least 3 maybe more seasons due to recycling and the Mayrand was also worn by Dan Zimmerman, Claude Jutras maybe more???
Only problem is Justin and his brother Jamie want their Sorel shirts back so i'll have to see what he comes up with as trade fodder!!!

Great topic!!

I have 2 that i cant choose between- the first is a Aaron Downey Dallas Stars 03-04 road jersey. Downes has always been my favorite fighter so to get one of his jerseys was awesome- and then to meet him at a charity game in Nottingham and get the fight strap signed on the jersey was unreal!

and my 2nd is my Jeremy Cornish London Racers 04-05 road- big fan of Cornish, and i speak to him abit and help him get fight tapes etc.. so i realy wanted a Cornish gamer- was well happy when one finally came up (thanks Jasper) and the wear is great also!

Yes did you buy the Sorel's from Kebek?
I read somewhere that all the Sorel jerseys were used from the start, I got a Stephan Groleau Sorel jersey and its the dirtiest/most grimey jersey I have.

This is a really tough one becaus all my jerseys are special to me for different reasons.

Nicky Chinn Devils....it took me ages to track one down and i've finally got one. It's a shame this jersey doesnt have a lot of wear only a few little rips.

Ian McIntyre Racers 04-05....He was always a favourite of mine, i remember watching him play for cardiff and both London Racers and Knights, a brilliant player who was always great to watch. The jersey doesnt have a lot of wear only a few stick and puck marks.

Miroslav Droppa Capitals 03-04....He was my favourite defender of the season, he played brilliant every game an showed great skill. The jersey is made by Rhino and if anyone knows the BNL jerseys from that year they know the thinness of them. Since the jersey is so thin there are holes on both sleeves and a tear on the back just below the collar.

Roni Mesikammen Riverkings 99-00....I love this jersey because of the wear, the sleeves are covered in holes and board burns. There's a few stick marks but not a lot. The main bit of wear is the huge repair at the bottom of the jersey on the front. About a 5inch piece of material has been sewn back on. Brilliant wear on this jersey

Eric Cairns Islanders 99-00......He is the best player i have ever seen play in the UK. He was a pleasure to watch, he seemed that step of class above the rest and he was. The jersey shows good wea, it's covered in stick and puck marks, a few board burns on the sleeves and there's a repaired rip on the collar. It has also been signed by Cairns on the inside of the jersey at the back of the logo. This is also a favourite of mine because its my only NHL jersey.
(Thanks Dan)

My favorite jersey is my Mark McArthur Guildford Flames jersey. He's the best goalie I've ever seen in the U.K. I know that probably many Elite league goalies are better but I rarely ever watch Elite League. I'm seeing him play in January and I'm hoping to get his game worn jersey if I can find out how to get hold of it. The jersey that I was most sad not to get was Jamie McLennan's Guildford Flames jersey from last year!!! The person bidding against me thought I was a sponsor and the bid went over my budget. Sad Sad

My favorite jersey is one ive just got after 4 years of trying to get one.
If just got my all time favorite players game worn shirt.

The player im talking about is in my opinion one of the best players to ever grace the ice in a Cardiff Devils shirt and was always one of the best players in the Super league.

Yes im talking about Ivan Matulik. Its taken me 4yrs to get one as im always lossing out on them. Its a home shirt and comes with a few rips and holes but a lot of pulls, stick marks and board burns.

It really is the best shirt in my collection.

To see the shirt and all my others go to www.freewebs.com/gameworn

Just won Theo Fleury's home jersey jersey in "shirt of their back"..which was unbelievable Very Happy but of all my jersys i love my Shane Johnson "Boston Uni" the most. It took me so long to track it down that it is definitely the most valuable...to me Wink

Excellent pick-up! Glad it's gone to a collector.

I'll be in Belfast tomorrow for the Nottingham game, I'll look out for a Fleury gamer in the crowd!

And another Belak fan....and the subject of my own favourite jersey the 04/05 Elite League Playoff's Coventry Blaze home. It has the scars of Wade's famous fight with Racers Eric Cairns. a tear to the neck and blood stains!
